Collection

"Collection is a state of balanced energy. A horse that is collected will have a dropped croup, engaged hindquarters, flexed abdominals, arched spine, and elevated head and neck, and a flexed poll. When a horse works in collected gaits, he is working at the same tempo as the working gait but he will have a shorter, more elevated stride and will cover less ground than a working gait."
-Cherry Hill

We learned collection today! At first Koda was full of energy in the round pen and lacking some manners. Sammy (my trainer) jumped in and let him know what was expected. I hope I can be half as good as her someday.

Since our last lesson was terrible, I was apprehensive how we would do today. Sammy told me we were going to learn collection and I was excited to do something different. Koda learned pretty quickly what I wanted. We did it at the walk and the trot, then worked a little on the lope. All together a good day!

Monday I didn't ride or play, Tuesday we played with the ball and Wednesday we practiced "scary places" clicker training. It's been a good horse week!
